Criticism of Power in Theater and Film
Cooperation with the festival “Politik im Freien Theater”

HOW CAN CRITICISM OF POWER BE FORMULATED WITH DIFFERENT ART FORMS? How are dif­fe­ren­ces and social ine­qua­li­ties pre­sen­ted and expe­ri­en­ced in thea­ter and cine­ma? In coope­ra­ti­on with the fes­ti­val “Politik im Freien Theater” school clas­ses meet at LUCAS to dis­cuss this question.

In class, at the thea­ter in Frankfurt’s Naxoshalle, and at the DFF cine­ma the stu­dents dis­cuss their ques­ti­ons about the artis­tic repre­sen­ta­ti­on of social dif­fe­ren­ces in the thea­ter and on the screen. The start­ing point for their cri­ti­cal ana­ly­ses and dis­cus­sions is the per­for­mance UNTERSCHEIDET EUCH! EIN GESELLSCHAFTSSPIEL, in which the thea­ter coll­ec­ti­ve Turbo Pascal makes social dif­fe­ren­ces and inju­s­ti­ces per­cep­ti­ble and nego­tia­ble on stage, and the short film MARADONAS BEINE by Firas Khoury, in which two young Palestinians hunt for the last miss­ing sti­cker for their scrap­book — the legs of Diego Maradona — during the 1990 World Cup. The pro­ject days are held in September and October for 6th gra­de school clas­ses. The 11th Festival Politik im Freien Theater will be held for the first time in Frankfurt am Main from September 29 to October 8, 2022. Under the mot­to “Power,” the inter­di­sci­pli­na­ry pro­gram brings tog­e­ther cur­rent artis­tic posi­ti­ons and events that address social chal­lenges and ope­ra­te at the inter­sec­tions of per­for­mance, poli­ti­cal edu­ca­ti­on, dis­cour­se, and activism.

The con­ver­sa­ti­on will take place in ger­man language.

The “Young European Cinephiles” have also cura­ted three films on the the­me of “power”.
