SHORT FILM ENTRY FOR LUCAS #46<\/strong><\/h2>\n

LUCAS pres\u00adents up to date, inter\u00adna\u00adtio\u00adnal films for young audi\u00aden\u00adces. Outstanding fic\u00adtion, docu\u00admen\u00adta\u00adry, ani\u00adma\u00adti\u00adon, and expe\u00adri\u00admen\u00adtal films are part of the five LUCAS com\u00adpe\u00adti\u00adti\u00adons in the age cate\u00adgo\u00adries 8+, 13+ and 16+ | Youngsters. 21 fea\u00adture films, as well as a sel\u00adec\u00adtion of short films, will com\u00adpe\u00adte for the LUCAS awards.<\/p>\n

For the short film com\u00adpe\u00adti\u00adti\u00adons 8+ and 13+<\/strong>, we accept pro\u00adduc\u00adtions with a maxi\u00admum length of 30 minu\u00adtes. The film has to have its German pre\u00admie\u00adre at LUCAS. Please use FilmFreeway<\/strong><\/a> to enter your shorts.<\/p>\n

Please read the Short Film Submission Rules careful\u00adly befo\u00adre sub\u00admit\u00adting your short film to LUCAS #46 on FilmFreeway<\/a> until May 1, 2023<\/strong>. Please also refer to the cus\u00adtom sub\u00admis\u00adsi\u00adon forms and rules lis\u00adted in their enti\u00adre\u00adty on FilmFreeway.<\/p>\n

The sel\u00adec\u00adtion com\u00admit\u00adtee scouts fea\u00adture-length films at fes\u00adti\u00advals and indus\u00adtry mee\u00adtings and cura\u00adtes the com\u00adpe\u00adti\u00adti\u00adon films for the sec\u00adtions 8+, 13+ and 16+ | Youngsters from the stron\u00adgest cur\u00adrent pro\u00adduc\u00adtions world\u00adwi\u00adde. The pro\u00adduc\u00adtions must not yet have been released in German cine\u00admas. PLEASE NOTE: All ques\u00adti\u00adons of the cus\u00adtom form must be ans\u00adwe\u00adred. Please refer to the regu\u00adla\u00adti\u00adon details below for fur\u00adther info.<\/p>\n

  1. The film has to have its GERMAN PREMIERE at LUCAS: It has not been pre\u00adsen\u00adted befo\u00adre in a German fes\u00adti\u00adval or at other public events in Germany.<\/li>\n
  2. The film is not available for free or paid public vie\u00adw\u00ading on the Internet, social media included.<\/li>\n
  3. Only films which have been pro\u00addu\u00adced bet\u00adween 2021 and 2023 are eligible.<\/li>\n
  4. Only ent\u00adries that can pro\u00advi\u00adde a DCP scree\u00adning copy with English sub\u00adtit\u00adles will be accepted.<\/li>\n
  5. The sub\u00admis\u00adsi\u00adon link must also pro\u00advi\u00adde English subtitles.<\/li>\n
  6. The run\u00adning time of the film may not exceed 30 minutes.<\/li>\n
  7. Only ent\u00adries with ans\u00adwers to the cus\u00adtom form will be taken into consideration.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The ent\u00adry fee for all short films is 10$. Productions from count\u00adries lis\u00adted as Least Developed Countries by the United Nations Committee for Development Policy are eli\u00adgi\u00adble to app\u00adly for an ent\u00adry fee wai\u00adver (ref. to the list here: https:\/\/unctad.org\/topic\/least-developed-countries\/list<\/a>). To app\u00adly for the ent\u00adry fee wai\u00adver code for pro\u00adduc\u00adtions from LDC, plea\u00adse cont\u00adact lucas-entry@dff.film and pro\u00advi\u00adde pro\u00adduc\u00adtion details. Entry fees will not be refun\u00added, neither in case of the film being ente\u00adred on dif\u00adfe\u00adrent plat\u00adforms, the film being sel\u00adec\u00adted nor not selected.<\/p>\n

    REGULATIONS DETAILS<\/p>\n

    1. LUCAS \u2013 International Festival for Young Film Lovers high\u00adlights in its pro\u00adgram inno\u00adva\u00adti\u00adve films both in form and con\u00adtent. We are loo\u00adking for out\u00adstan\u00adding pro\u00adduc\u00adtions which appeal to young film lovers of various ages. This includes films made spe\u00adci\u00adfi\u00adcal\u00adly for young audi\u00aden\u00adces as well as films on account of their form and con\u00adtent. LUCAS is orga\u00adni\u00adzed by DFF \u2013 Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum (Schaumainkai 41, 60596 Frankfurt).<\/li>\n
    2. The 46th LUCAS \u2013 International Festival for Young Film Lovers will take place in Frankfurt and the Rhein-Main regi\u00adon, Germany, from Oct 5 to 12, 2023. The fes\u00adti\u00adval is open for a wide ran\u00adge of fic\u00adtion, docu\u00admen\u00adta\u00adry, ani\u00adma\u00adti\u00adon, expe\u00adri\u00admen\u00adtal and hybrid films. The films will be shown in com\u00adpe\u00adti\u00adti\u00adon, out of com\u00adpe\u00adti\u00adti\u00adon and in spe\u00adcial programs.<\/li>\n
    3. Films sub\u00admit\u00adted for the short film com\u00adpe\u00adti\u00adti\u00adon must meet the fol\u00adlo\u00adwing criteria:
      \n+ The film has not been pre\u00adsen\u00adted befo\u00adre in a fes\u00adti\u00adval or at other public events in Germany and is not available for free or paid public vie\u00adw\u00ading on the internet.
      \n+ Only films which have been pro\u00addu\u00adced bet\u00adween 2021 and 2023 are eligible.
      \n+ Only ent\u00adries that can pro\u00advi\u00adde a DCP scree\u00adning copy with English sub\u00adtit\u00adles will be accept\u00aded. The sub\u00admis\u00adsi\u00adon link must also pro\u00advi\u00adde English subtitles.<\/li>\n
    4. A sel\u00adec\u00adtion com\u00admit\u00adtee choo\u00adses films for the com\u00adpe\u00adti\u00adti\u00adon. The sel\u00adec\u00adtion pro\u00adcess will not be public and the\u00adre is no legal right to enter the competition.<\/li>\n
    5. Filmmakers will be noti\u00adfied per mail and the plat\u00adform if their film is sel\u00adec\u00adted, films that are not sel\u00adec\u00adted will be noti\u00adfied via film\u00adfree\u00adway only.<\/li>\n
    6. The awards are deci\u00added upon by various inter\u00adna\u00adtio\u00adnal juries. The juries in the com\u00adpe\u00adti\u00adti\u00adons 8+ and 13+ con\u00adsist of child\u00adren and teens as well as film pro\u00adfes\u00adsio\u00adnals. The jury 16+ | Youngsters con\u00adsists only of ado\u00adle\u00ads\u00adcents and young adults. The jury\u2019s decis\u00adi\u00adon is final, and the jury does not need to jus\u00adti\u00adfy their decisions.
      \nAwards:
      \n+ Awards for Best Feature Film in the age cate\u00adgo\u00adry 8+ (5.000 \u20ac) and 13+ (5.000 \u20ac)
      \n+ Awards for the Best Short Film in the age cate\u00adgo\u00adry 8+ (2.000 \u20ac) and 13+ (2.000 \u20ac)
      \n+ Award for an Outstanding Cinematic Achievement | age cate\u00adgo\u00adry 13+ (2.000 \u20ac)
      \n+ LUCAS Youngsters Award | age cate\u00adgo\u00adry 16+ | Youngsters (5.000 \u20ac)
      \nMoreover, LUCAS bestows the unen\u00addo\u00adwed Audience Award as well as the award of the European Children\u2019s Film Association (ECFA).<\/li>\n
    7. Awards and pri\u00adze money will be dona\u00adted to the direc\u00adtors of the win\u00adning films.<\/li>\n
    8. After a film\u2019s ent\u00adry into com\u00adpe\u00adti\u00adti\u00adon has been publicly announ\u00adced, a with\u00addra\u00adwal of the film is no lon\u00adger possible.<\/li>\n
    9. Films will only be scree\u00adned in their ori\u00adgi\u00adnal lan\u00adguage with English sub\u00adtit\u00adles. Selected short films in com\u00adpe\u00adti\u00adti\u00adon may be trans\u00adla\u00adted into German for voice-over by the festival.<\/li>\n
    10. The fes\u00adti\u00adval ack\u00adnow\u00adled\u00adges that for each film the LUCAS regu\u00adla\u00adti\u00adons aut\u00adho\u00adri\u00adze a total of no more than 400 viewers.<\/li>\n
    11. The dead\u00adline for ente\u00adring short films is May 1, 2023. By then the sel\u00adec\u00adtion com\u00admit\u00adtee must have recei\u00adved the film via FilmFreeway or online link, as well as the com\u00adple\u00adted online form.<\/li>\n
    12. A DCP\/print of the film is to be sent only after an offi\u00adci\u00adal invi\u00adta\u00adti\u00adon. The DCP\/film print of the sel\u00adec\u00adted film must arri\u00adve at least 10 days befo\u00adre the fes\u00adti\u00adval starts.<\/li>\n
    13. Unless nego\u00adtia\u00adted other\u00adwi\u00adse, licen\u00adse pro\u00advi\u00adders of sel\u00adec\u00adted films will take care of the ship\u00adping cos\u00adts (trans\u00adport, insu\u00adrance and cus\u00adtoms) of the DCP and\/or QT ProRes to LUCAS. LUCAS will take care of the cos\u00adts for the ship\u00adment to the next desti\u00adna\u00adti\u00adon (eit\u00adher ano\u00adther fes\u00adti\u00adval or return to the licen\u00adse pro\u00advi\u00adder). The fes\u00adti\u00adval reta\u00adins a copy of the film in the fes\u00adti\u00advals archive.<\/li>\n
    14. The fes\u00adti\u00adval covers the insu\u00adrance of the DCPs\/film prints while they are on loca\u00adti\u00adon in Frankfurt, from their arri\u00adval until they are given back to the shipper.<\/li>\n
    15. Only the rights hol\u00adder or his repre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adti\u00adve can enter a film.<\/li>\n
    16. Entering a film equ\u00adals the accep\u00adtance of the festival\u2019s regulations.<\/li>\n
    17. The manage\u00adment of the fes\u00adti\u00adval is aut\u00adho\u00adri\u00adzed to chan\u00adge the festival\u2019s regu\u00adla\u00adti\u00adons in spe\u00adcial cases.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
